Ghillie is built local-first on purpose. The short version: your conversations, memories and files live on your Mac, we run no accounts and no analytics inside the app, and the only time anything leaves your machine is when Ghillie needs an AI model or a service to do the job you asked for. This page spells that out properly.
Ghillie and the ghillie.dev website are operated by Good Analysis ("we", "us"). You can reach us at kyle@goodanalysis.co.uk.
What stays on your Mac
Everything Ghillie knows about you is stored on your computer, in your user account, and never uploaded to us:
- Your conversations with it, past and present.
- Its memory of you: preferences, projects, people and anything else it has learned.
- The skills you teach it and how they are configured.
- Any files or data it works with on your behalf.
We have no server that holds your data, no account system, and no way to see any of it. Deleting the app and its data folder removes everything.
What leaves your Mac, and why
Ghillie thinks by calling AI models. When it does, the relevant parts of your conversation are sent to the AI provider being used for that job, processed under that provider's terms, and the reply comes back to your Mac. This is the same shape as any app that uses AI: the model has to read your message to answer it.
Likewise, when you ask it to do something that involves an outside service, such as sending an email or looking something up on the web, the data needed for that task goes to that service. It asks before doing anything real, so nothing is sent on its own initiative.
We do not sit in the middle of these calls, and the content of them is not collected by us.
The website
ghillie.dev is a static site hosted on Vercel. We set no cookies and run no analytics or tracking scripts. Like almost every website, the hosting infrastructure keeps standard server logs (such as IP address, request time and pages requested) for security and operations; see Vercel's privacy policy for how they handle those.
What we collect
If you email us, we will have your email address and whatever you wrote, and we use them only to reply and to improve Ghillie. That is the extent of the personal data we hold about you.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR and similar laws you have rights over personal data we hold, including access, correction, deletion and objection. Since the data we hold is limited to correspondence you have sent us, exercising them is usually as simple as asking. Email kyle@goodanalysis.co.uk and we will sort it out. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the UK.
For everything stored on your Mac, you are already in full control: it is yours, on your machine, and we never had it.
Children
Ghillie is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Ghillie handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes will be called out in the app's release notes.
