Memory

Ghillie remembers what matters, keeps track of where each memory came from, and can tell you which memories shaped an answer.
Where it lives
Memory is a PostgreSQL database on your Mac. pgvector handles meaning-based recall; full-text indexes keep exact names, identifiers and dates findable. Nothing is synced to a cloud.
Kinds of memory
| Kind | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Working | Short-lived context for one task or run. |
| Episodic | Time-stamped records of what was said and done. |
| Semantic | Consolidated facts, with provenance and a validity window. |
| Procedural | Preferences and working rules you have approved. |
| Relational | People, organisations, projects and the links between them. |
| Corpus | Source documents and chunks, cited when used but never treated as known fact. |
Categories
Kind says what a memory is; category says what it is about. Categories are kept deliberately shallow so the same rule applies whether a memory was captured live, imported or reviewed: self, people, work, projects, money, communications, home, health, travel, interests, technology, ghillie and general.
A deterministic classifier assigns categories and records its confidence, the rules it matched and its reasoning alongside the memory. Every applied decision is also appended to a history that cannot be edited or deleted, so a batch is reviewable and reversible. Categorisation is dry-run by default.
Provenance
Every memory records its source, its visibility and whether it is current. Memories can be corrected or superseded, never silently rewritten. When Ghillie answers, it can tell you which memories, which model and which tools were involved.
Teaching and correcting
Tell Ghillie a preference and it becomes a procedural memory. Tell it something it has wrong and the old memory is marked superseded with the correction linked to it. Periodic memory review surfaces low-confidence or stale items for you to confirm or discard.
